ADVISING/REGISTRATION/ TRANSFERRING

How do I make an appointment to see an advisor in Student Services?
It is best to call (920) 683-4707 or stop in the Student Services Office to schedule an appointment.  Walk-in appointments are sometimes available, but it is best to schedule a time so that you are sure to receive the best service.  The Student Services Office is open Monday-Thursday, 7:30 am - 6 pm, and Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm.

How can I find information about transferring to other UW System Universities?
There are several ways.  The Transfer Information System (TIS) is available in the Student Services Office and in the Computer Labs.  This is a computerized information system that will help you learn about course equivalencies and other important transfer information.  You may also meet with an advisor in Student Services.  Finally, it is always a good idea to visit your intended transfer campus and speak with them about your transfer plans.

How do I have transcripts sent to another school?
Transcript Request Forms are available in the Administrative Services Office for forwarding OFFICIAL transcripts to the school you are transferring to. There is a $3.00 charge for official transcripts.  If you would like an UNOFFICIAL transcript, the Student Services Office can provide you with a photocopy for personal use.

FINANCIAL AID QUESTIONS

How do I apply for financial aid?
May aid sources are limited, therefore you should apply early.  All application materials should be submitted as soon after January 1 as possible for the academic year that begins the following September.  Applicants who have submitted all necessary forms by April 1 may be given funding priority and will be the first to hear about their financial aid eligibility.  If you miss the April 1 deadline, you can still receive some types of aid depending on your eligibility.

What must I do when filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or renewal form?
Complete the entire document, including any supplemental information at the end of the form.  Three to five weeks after you file the FAFSA form you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the US Department of Education.  This document is used by college financial aid offices to determine eligibility for the Pell Grant and other forms of federal and state financial aid.  Read the information provided on the SAR.  If the information does not need correcting and you named the UW Colleges as one of the schools to receive your information, just keep the SAR in your files.  If you did not name the UW Colleges, sign the SAR and submit ALL of the pages to the Student Services Office.  You will be informed by mail of any additional forms or information that is needed.

How do I get financial aid if I am a transfer student coming to UW-Manitowoc?
If you are transferring to UW-Manitowoc in the Fall semester, you must provide the Student Services Office with a copy of your SAR in addition to the requirements shown for all students in the question above.  Transfer students coming to UW-Manitowoc during the spring term must meet the requirements shown in the above question and must also send a Financial Aid Transcript (FAT)  form to each college or school attended beyond high school.  Blank copies are available in the Student Services Office.  Your former school(s) will complete the FAT and send the form to the UW Colleges Financial Aid Office.

When and where do I claim my financial aid?
Because most financial aid is awarded to the student (and not the institution) and the student is ultimately responsible for payment, students must claim their financial aid in the Administrative Services Office.  NOTE:  Financial aid will not be available until after classes start.

TUITION QUESTIONS

When is tuition due?
All tuition is due before the 10th business day of the semester.  Payment by mail is encouraged, but must be received by the 10th day of the semester.

Can I pay tuition with a credit card?
Payment by credit card or web check may be made via PRISM. The site may not be available 24 hours a day, so please note the hours of availability for making timely payments.

Can tuition be paid on a payment plan?
UW-Manitowoc offers an installment plan to assist you in the payment of your tuition.  There is a $10.00 fee applicable for instituting the installment plan.  The plan calls for a minimum down payment of $200.00, which is due on or before the 10th business day of the semester.  The remaining balance is then split into two equal payments, one due at the end of the 5th week of classes and the final payment due at the end of the 9th week of classes.

Is there a penalty if I pay my tuition after the due date?
If you have not signed up for the Installment Credit Agreement or have a signed Deferment form on file on or before the 10th day of the semester, you will be assessed a late fee of $4.00 per credit, up to $48.00.  Failure to make a tuition payment by the end of the 3rd week of the semester would result in an automatic cancellation of registration.  A re-admission fee of $25.00 plus the late fee would be charged after the 3rd week.

What if I am eligible for financial aid by it has not arrived by the time tuition is due?
If your financial aid has been approved but has not arrived by the due date, you must request a FEE DEFERMENT from the Student Services Office.  This form will extend the tuition due date until your financial aid arrives.  NOTE:  You cannot rely on financial aid to purchase your books since it may not be available in time.

How are my fees handled if I am currently enrolled at another University of Wisconsin campus?
Your fees may be adjusted if you are enrolled at another University of Wisconsin campus, depending on the total number of credits for which you are registered.  To receive any adjustments you are entitled to, notify the Business Office.  NOTE:  UW-Manitowoc segregated fees will be assessed in full.

ADDING/DROPPING CLASSES

After I register for classes, how can I add or drop a class?
Pick up an Add/Drop Form in the Student Services Office.  After completing all information requested, obtain the faculty signature on the card and return it to the Student Services Office.  Be certain to obtain a copy of your revised schedule.

Why do I have to obtain an instructor's signature to add or drop a class?
Faculty require this so they know who is currently registered for their classes.  Faculty also want to know why students are dropping their courses so that they may offer assistance.

What is the difference between dropping classes and withdrawing from the university?
Withdrawal means dropping ALL classes; dropping means canceling your registration in one or more courses, but not all of them.  You may withdraw by either coming to the Student Services Office to complete a Withdrawal Form, OR by writing a letter and sending it to the Student Services Office.  Please note the date of withdrawal will be the date you RETURN the Withdrawal Form, or the date of the postmark if you send a letter.

If I drop a class or withdraw from the university, do I get a refund of tuition?
You may be eligible for a refund if you drop below 12 credits during the first 4 weeks of classes.  NO REFUNDS are given if you drop after the 4th week of classes.  Consult the current Timetable of the UW Colleges Catalog for refund information.
