Cancelled Classes

Cancelled classes can now be found on the home page. www.uwmanitowowc.uwc.edu

While we try our best to keep this page as up to date as possible, you may also wish to call the main office at 683-4700 to inquire about class cancellations. Please note that in case of severe weather, it may not be possible to update this page (or the phone message), so please refer to the notice below and listen to local media for closings.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY & PROCEDURES

The Dean may cancel or delay classes because of severe winter weather.  The Dean’s office will advise the media.  Location of Radio and TV media listings are posted on the bulletin board and on the campus television monitors.  Please review the following details related to late starts, early dismissals, cancellation of classes, and the closing of the campus due to severe weather.

MORNING CONCERNS:  If we need to declare a late start of classes or cancel classes entirely for the day, the decision will be made by 6 AM at the latest and contact made with the radio and television stations listed below to make the announcement as soon as possible.  If you have students who commute a considerable distance, it is suggested that you establish a calling tree.

Radio Stations:           WQTC-FM     102.3               WOMT-AM    1240
                                    WLTU-FM      92.1                 WCUB-AM       980
                                    WAPL-FM      105.7               WHBY-AM     1150
                                    WLKN-FM     98.1
WIXX-FM      101
WNCY-FM     100.3

TV Stations:               Channels 2, 5, 11, and 26

AFTERNOON/EVENING CONCERNS:  If afternoon classes are in session and weather conditions worsen, we will send messengers to the classrooms, put the information on the TV monitors in the halls, and notify the TV and radio stations.  If we need to cancel evening classes, the decision will be made and announced by 4:00 PM.  Once again, the radio and TV stations listed above will be informed of an early dismissal and/or cancellation of evening classes.

If we cancel classes, then it means that ALL classes and events on campus are cancelled for that specified period.  If there is no cancellation (the weather is not bad enough), faculty are expected to hold class unless they cannot make it to campus because of the weather.  Call (920) 683-4700 and leave a message.

Whether classes are cancelled or not, in extreme winter weather students and staff are expected to make their own judgment regarding the safety of the roads.

If an employee cannot make it to work or asks to leave work early because of the weather, he/she must contact their supervisor about using vacation, holiday, compensatory time credits, or leave without pay to cover the time missed.
