The following is an actual email sent in response to a creationist who (via email) downloaded a HUGE file onto my hard drive (so large in fact that my "respond with copy" function couldn't handle it!).

Mr. Xian (Not his real name)--

I suspect that saying anything to you is of no avail--despite the many protests that antievolutionists make about being objective, many of those that hold your position (I can't say about you, not knowing you personally) are so intent on removing motes in others' eyes that they refuse to see the forests of logs in their own.

I need lectures neither on the evolution/creation debate nor on Christianity. I hold a degree in religion as well as philosophy, trained for the ministry, (having, e.g., preached in rescue missions in downtown Oakland, CA), and, fortunately for my intellectual and emotional well-being, got to a point in life where truth got the better of my fears and self-centered hopes.

Rear-guard "intellectual" actions such as you deluged (pardon the pun) on my hard-drive are pitiful and dreary; you could, if you wished, produce such a volume of "refutation" for anything, whether it is heliocentricism or powered flight. What absolutely astounds me is how seemingly educated persons as yourself can ignore the masses of evidence for something. If I produced an incomplete jigsaw puzzle for you which was about 2/3rds complete, showing very obviously a mountain, a bit of a lake, some trees, but the other pieces were simply lost, is it rational to then argue that "well, it can't be a picture of mountain scenery, because, well, pieces are missing here and here, and hey you've stuck in a bad piece there, and. . ."? But I know your sad reply already--all that rot from biology, molecular biology, comparative biology, psychology, genetics, geology, astronomy, nuclear physics, etc.--all that which individually and collectively SHOUT that evolutionary development has occurred--all that amounts to "near nothing."

The truth is that your ilk have one, irrefutable and unfalsifiable (and unverifiable) central organizing concept--the immanent and caring God of Christianity (and no other religion will do), and all other "truths" must be made consistent with and subservient to that. I saw long ago, Mr. Xian, the "objectivity" of your position--and am infinitely happier for having abandoned it.But will you, Mr Xian, heed your own criticisms? Are there none to be made of religious belief?

Al White
